What Are GalaFLEX & Strattice?
GalaFLEX and Strattice are reconstructive tissue matrices used in plastic and reconstructive surgery to reinforce soft tissue after an injury or surgical repair. Known as immediate soft tissue reinforcement or soft tissue repair, the absorbable scaffold provides a lattice for new tissue to grow into, replacing the material with natural tissue and long-lasting soft tissue strength. GalaFLEX and Strattice come in different shapes depending on the size and exact location required for tissue remodeling.
Who is a Good Candidate?
These matrices are often used if you’re having breast lift surgery, breast augmentation surgery with silicone or saline implants, and other plastic surgery on the breasts. It’s also used in abdominoplasty or tummy tuck surgery, as well as body wall defects such as hernia repair.

The Procedure
During reconstructive surgery, a GalaFLEX scaffold or Strattice tissue matrix can be placed under the skin and muscle, providing stronger tissue gradually transferring to native tissue ingrowth. After surgery, the tissue matrix will remain in place, and the body’s healing process will begin. New collagen and natural tissue fibers will then begin to grow through the spaces within the tissue matrix. The ingrown tissue will ultimately provide support for years to come.
GalaFLEX
GalaFLEX is made from a bioresorbable polymer that provides immediate soft tissue reinforcement in the area. Over time, it integrates with the natural tissue and is resorbed by the body, leaving only native tissue behind.
Strattice
Strattice is made from porcine tissue and promotes soft tissue repair, support for the initial healing phase, and wound healing. It’s sometimes known as an “internal bra” because it can integrate into the breast area and provide support over time.
