What is an Advanced Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is an aesthetic procedure in which a chemical solution is applied topically to the skin (usually of the face) to remove the outer layer of skin and stimulate the growth of new skin cells. The solution usually contains salicylic acid, glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, or lactic acid.
Your skin looks brighter, and skincare products are absorbed better after treatment. Peels differ in their strength, and more aggressive forms go deeper to provide more benefit but also require more downtime. The range typically goes from superficial peels to a deep chemical peel.
J Sweat Plastic Surgery offers three mild peels by SkinMedica to brighten your skin, reduce pore size, improve acne, and stimulate new skin cell growth.
Illuminize Peel
This light chemical peel is the gentlest of the 3 peels and is appropriate for mild skin imperfections as determined by Dr. Sweat and his team. This peel helps brighten the overall appearance of the skin with minimal downtime. Visible results after 1 peel.
Vitalize Peel
This is a medium chemical peel. It is appropriate for mild to moderate skin imperfections as determined by Dr. Sweat and his team. This peel smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, age spots, and rough skin. After 1 peel you will notice some improvement in your skin, however, we recommend that these peels be done in a series of 3-6 peels to see maximum effect.
Rejuvenize Peel
This is the strongest of the peels, appropriate for moderate to severe skin imperfections, as determined by Dr. Sweat and his team. This peel smooths the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and uneven skin texture. Noticeable results after just 1 peel, compelling results after 3-6 peels. Dr. Sweat and his team will consult with you to advise on the best chemical peel regimen for your skin type.
Who is a Good Candidate?
Peels are most often recommended for aging, sun-damaged and hyper-pigmented skin, however, all skin types will benefit from a deeper peel. The appropriate type of peel for you will be determined using the Fitzpatrick Scale. Pregnant and nursing mothers and those with active cold sores are not suitable for this procedure.

The Procedure
Before your chemical peel, your skin will be cleansed to remove any impurities and prepare the treatment area. A chemical solution, carefully selected based on your skin type and concerns, is then applied to the skin. This solution exfoliates the outer layer, stimulating cell turnover and collagen production. The process may cause a tingling or warm sensation, but most patients find it tolerable.
The duration of the procedure depends on the type and depth of the peel being performed, typically lasting between 30 minutes and an hour. Once the solution has completed its work, it is neutralized, and a soothing agent or moisturizer is applied to calm the skin.
Following the procedure, you may notice some redness or tightness, and recovery times will vary depending on the depth of the peel. While lighter peels may require little to no downtime, medium or deeper peels might involve a short recovery period with visible peeling as your skin rejuvenates. Our team will provide aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results and minimize discomfort.
Benefits
of HydraFacial Treatment
Whether you want to reduce fine lines, brighten your complexion, or treat stubborn acne, chemical peels provide a non-invasive treatment option with minimal downtime:
The Results
Having your skin in great shape before the peel is imperative. You can get a peel without healthy skin, but health is better if you want great results. J.Sweat Plastic Surgery carries pharmaceutical-grade skincare to prep your skin for optimal results.
Recovery times will vary based on the type and strength of the peel. Immediately after the peel, your skin may feel tight and red. The skin may thicken on days 2 and 3, and dark spots may look darker. By the 4th day, you may notice mild peeling around the mouth and nose. Any visible peeling will be light and fluffy and easily controlled with moisturizer. Peeling usually lasts 3-5 days, depending on the peel treatment. Using gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen and avoiding excess sun exposure is important, as it will enhance healing and results. As your skin heals, you’ll notice more significant results.
A single treatment will smooth, tighten, and brighten your skin, giving you a youthful appearance. However, a series is recommended for optimal results.
