What is a Lower Body Lift?

A lower body lift is a procedure designed to reshape areas of the lower body after weight loss or pregnancy. More specifically, it removes excess skin from the outer thighs, hips, and buttocks in a single procedure. The result is a more defined figure and a reduced amount of sagging skin around the lower body. Dr. Sweat performs body contouring procedures such as the lower body lift at our premier Sacramento office.

Who is a Candidate?

The lower body lift is ideal for patients who have lost significant amounts of weight and are left with stretched skin in the area around the hips and thighs. If this impacts the way your clothes fit or your confidence when wearing certain outfits, the lower body lift may be a good option. You should be in overall good health, nonsmoking, and at a healthy and stable weight. During a consultation with Dr. Sweat, you’ll learn more about whether the lower body lift is for you and how you can maximize your results.

The Procedure

Dr. Sweat typically performs the lower body lift under general anesthesia. Because of this, he will carefully review your medical history during your consultation and ensure a low-risk procedure. Once the procedure begins, he will create an incision similar to a bikini pattern across the hips, buttocks, and groin area. Once the incision has been created, skin will be removed and tightened before the incisions are closed. The lower body lift is often combined with body contouring techniques like liposuction to remove fat and create a more contoured look. In all, the lower body lift takes about 2-4 hours in total. Once complete, you will be able to return home after a brief monitoring period.

Results

After your lower body lift procedure, you will return home and rest for 1-2 weeks. During this time, you will experience side effects and Dr. Sweat will provide detailed aftercare instructions for you to follow. You will be prescribed medications to manage swelling and discomfort and should take these according to directions. You may have drains in place and our team will help you understand how to manage them.

For the first 4-6 weeks, you should avoid strenuous activity and focus on resting. By 2-3 weeks, you may feel comfortable enough to return to light activities and your regular schedule. Within 5-6 weeks, you should begin to see most bruising and swelling subside and notice your results.

After a lower body lift, you will see a noticeable improvement in the overall look and silhouette of your figure. With a healthy and active lifestyle, you can maintain your results for years to come.
