What is a Lower Body Lift?
A lower body lift is a procedure designed to reshape areas of the lower body after weight loss or pregnancy. Excess skin from the outer thighs, hips, and buttocks is removed in a single procedure. The result is a more defined figure and reduced sagging skin around the lower body. Dr. Sweat performs body contouring procedures such as the lower body lift at our premier Sacramento office. The procedure also addresses any discomfort associated with excess skin, such as chafing, irritation, or mobility limitations, significantly improving both form and function.
J. Sweat Plastic Surgery specializes in body contouring procedures like the lower body lift to ensure that each patient receives customized care and natural-looking results. Whether you want to remove excess skin and fat or tighten abdominal muscles, a customizable lower body lift is an ideal surgical procedure.
Who is a Candidate?
The lower body lift is ideal for patients who have lost significant amounts of weight and are left with stretched skin in the area around the hips and thighs. If this impacts how your clothes fit or your confidence when wearing certain outfits, the lower body lift may be a good option. The lower body lift is particularly effective for individuals whose sagging skin interferes with their daily lives, including mobility and comfort.
Healthy nonsmokers who are stable in weight benefit most from this procedure. Candidates must achieve their weight loss goals before surgery, as significant changes in weight after the procedure can compromise results. Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is key to ensuring the long-term success of the surgery.
During a consultation with Dr. Sweat, you’ll discuss your unique concerns and goals. Dr. Sweat will assess your skin’s condition, overall health, and desired outcomes to determine if the lower body lift is right for you. There’s no perfect age for this procedure; a lower body lift can be a transformative step toward a more confident and comfortable you with the right preparation and guidance.

The Procedure
Dr. Sweat typically performs the lower body lift under general anesthesia. Because of this, he will carefully review your medical history during your consultation and ensure a low-risk procedure. Once the procedure begins, he will create an incision similar to a bikini pattern across the hips, buttocks, and groin area. Once the incision has been created, the skin will be removed and tightened before the incisions are closed. The lower body lift procedure takes about 2-4 hours in total. Once complete, you can return home after a brief monitoring period.
Benefits
of Lower Body Lift Surgery
Dr. Sweat will discuss the numerous benefits of the lower body lift surgery thoroughly in a private consultation:
The Results
After your lower body lift procedure, you will return home and rest for 1-2 weeks. During this time, you will experience side effects, and Dr. Sweat will provide detailed aftercare instructions for you to follow. You will be prescribed medications to manage swelling and discomfort and should take these according to directions. You may have drains in place, and our team will help you understand how to manage them.
For the first 4-6 weeks, you should avoid strenuous activity and focus on resting. By 2-3 weeks, you may feel comfortable enough to return to light activities and your regular schedule. Within 5-6 weeks, you should see most bruising and swelling subside and notice your results.
After a lower body lift, you will notice a noticeable improvement in your figure’s overall look and silhouette. You can maintain your results for years with a healthy and active lifestyle.
