What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a buttock augmentation procedure to create a larger, more shapely backside while slimming problem areas like the hips. A type of buttock enhancement (gluteal augmentation), the Brazilian butt lift involves using your own fat cells to augment the buttocks rather than synthetic buttock implants – a process called fat grafting. Fat can be removed from any area of excess such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, back, and arms, and reinjected into the buttocks for a more proportionate body silhouette.
Who is a Candidate?
If you have flat or sagging buttocks (or feel that your buttocks are too small for your body) and wish to achieve a more balanced or hourglass look, you may be a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift. You should be healthy, nonsmoking, and have realistic expectations for your surgery. For the best Brazilian butt lift results, you’re recommended to be at or near your ideal weight and be committed to maintaining your weight in the future.
If you have concerns about loose or excess skin in the areas that may be chosen for liposuction, you may not be the best candidate for this plastic surgery procedure. Once the fatty tissue is removed, having poor skin elasticity could lead to unfavorable results. A consultation with Dr. Sweat is needed to determine specifically if you’re a good candidate for this body contouring procedure.

The Procedure
Brazilian butt lift procedures are done under IV sedation and local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. If extensive liposuction is to be performed, including in multiple areas, you may opt for a general anesthetic. Your Brazilian butt lift surgeon, Dr. Sweat, will review the details of your procedure during a consultation.

Dr. Sweat will discuss in detail the many benefits of the Brazilian butt lift surgery during a consultation.
The Results
Following a Brazilian butt lift, you should not sit directly on your buttocks for three weeks. This is imperative to achieving optimal and long-lasting results because it allows for maximal fat survival. On average, only about 50% of the transferred fat ultimately survives, which means that the increased size of the buttocks seen immediately after surgery will slowly dissipate by half over the next several weeks to months.
A special compression garment will need to be worn for at least two weeks, which will help to reduce swelling. You’ll need to take one to two weeks off from work, depending on if your job requires you to sit extensively. All normal activities should be able to be resumed after four to six weeks
